In conjunction with Queensland Council for Civil Liberties, this event will feature leading Human Rights lawyer Julian Burnside AO QC who will speak about the threat to civil liberties inherent in indiscriminate communications data retention and mass surveillance more generally.

Mr Burnside will be introduced by Carly Nyst, Legal Director of Privacy International.

Canapes will be served and a cash bar will be available.

Sydney – Privacy: A Global Perspective

Wednesday, 15th October, 6.00pm to 7.30pm

In conjunction with the Australian Privacy Foundation and Privacy International (PI), EFA is proud to present Carly Nyst, PI’s Legal Director in conversation with ZDNet’s Josh Taylor.

They will discuss a range of issues relating to privacy around the world, including mass digital surveillance, data retention and other threats to privacy, as well as potential legislative advances such as introducing a tort of privacy and new ‘sexting’ legislation.

Carly will also answer questions from the audience.
