Call for Nominations to Electronic Frontiers Australia Inc. Board

Date of Issue: 04 October 2024

EFA members are invited to nominate for election to the Board. As per Rule 10.4 of the EFA Rules of Incorporation , there will be five vacant Board seats at the AGM.

Nominations from new members (that join before the close of nominations) are acceptable, and nominations from people belonging to groups that may be currently under-represented on the Board are particularly encouraged.

EFA has been in existence for 30 years now and many past and present Board members have made significant contributions to shifting the needle on government policy and legislation covering a range of issues from digital rights, privacy, encryption, net neutrality, open technology, and Internet Governance. EFA exists today because of the achievements and hard work of previous Boards, members and volunteers.

How to Nominate
You do not need to be an experienced board member to nominate, infact we encourage people from underrepresented groups to join. All candidates must have a reasonable understanding of duties as a Responsible Person under the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission (ACNC) standards, the nature of an operational board and the time commitments, eligibility and disqualification criteria, background checks we are required to undertake, and how we publish and use your candidate statement.

Download and read the Information Sheet on Being a Board Member and How to Nominate which contains:

  1. Background information on EFA’s operational board and expected time committments
  2. Links to resources that specialise in not-for-profit governance for community groups and not-for-profit law to inform you of your obligations and manage your expectations
  3. A link to our declaration of interests form to complete alongside your statement.
  4. Instructions on what to include in your candidate statement and templated wording for your mandatory declaration of eligibility for the ACNC all of which which will be submitted via email.

Close of Nominations
Nominations close Saturday, 19 October 2024.
