EFA members are invited to nominate for election to the Board. As per Rule 10.4 of the EFA Rules of Incorporation, there will be five vacant Board seats at the AGM.
EFA has been in existence for over 30 years now and many past and present Board members have made significant contributions to shifting the needle on government policy and legislation covering digital rights and privacy. EFA exists today because of the achievements and hard work of previous Boards, members and volunteers.
Nominations from new members (that join before the close of nominations) are acceptable, and nominations from people belonging to groups that are traditionally under-represented on the Board are particularly encouraged.
As the current stewards of the EFA legacy we are keen to start building and shaping the next generation of digital rights and privacy advocates. If this resonates with you, EFA is a great space to start developing or honing those skills and being mentored by seasoned campaigners and domain experts.
We encourage diversity and strongly encourage candidates of all age ranges and from all backgrounds, especially LGBTQI+ and First Nations.
What to expect as a Board member
Board members should reasonably expect to spend around 2 – 3 hours per week supporting EFA functions, campaigns and advocacy. We have a monthly board meeting that usually goes for around 2 hours and is held in the evening on an agreed week night. EFA executive officers are likely to spend additional time on EFA matters because of additional responsibilities attached to their relevant position.
If board participation is not on your radar right now, perhaps consider volunteering. See more here.
