Electronic Frontiers Australia joins the world in mourning the passing of Nelson Mandela. Mr Mandela was an icon in the fight for freedom, which now includes online freedom of access and expression, and freedom from censorship, surveillance, and oppression.
EFA finds these words from Mr Mandela’s autobiography “Long Walk to Freedom” to be particularly poignant at this time in the fight for online freedom:
“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”
